NSW: postal worker strike has little effect - Australia Post

SYDNEY, Feb 13 AAP - A 24 hour strike by NSW postal workers yesterday had little effect
on deliveries, Australia Post said today.

Workers from Australia Post's parcel post and transport network facilities in Sydney
walked off the job for 24 hours yesterday.

Australia Post spokesman Matt Pollard said about 60 per cent of its employees worked
despite the strike.

"Less than five per cent of parcels were delayed by the strike and these will be delivered
just one day later than normal," he said.

"Very few interstate parcels were affected as staff and volunteers from other parts
of (Australia) Post were able to meet important transport deadlines for the vast majority
of parcels."

The strike relates to the $120 million upgrade of Australia Post's parcels network,
which includes a high-tech facility at Chullora in Sydney's west.

The workers are concerned full-time jobs and employee entitlements will be lost.

The Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) has threatened further action
if claims are not met by February 20.
